Movement Engagement Manager

FUNCTION:

United We Rise (UWR) is a national, Black-led, intersectional effort with a mission to unite and mobilize Black people throughout the community to reimagine a path to ending HIV for Every(Black)Body – www.everyblackbody.org. The initiative is based at the Multicultural AIDS Coalition in Boston, with membership from across the country. The Movement Engagement Manager primarily facilitates the work of the Planning Committee for UWR, which is the guiding body providing overall direction related to public health, community mobilization and policy. The Movement Engagement Manager provides staff support to coordinate project implementation, including all administrative and communication project tasks.

Overall, the Movement Engagement Manager will have strong project management skills, attention to detail, critical thinking capabilities, commitment to community-driven processes, and a passion for addressing HIV inequities and intersecting oppressions experienced by Black communities across the US. Must have the skills, knowledge, experience and passion needed to effectively bring diverse individuals, communities and organizations together and guide them towards collective action.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Organize, manage, and coordinate operational and administrative processes for the United We Rise initiative, including:

  • Coordinate with contractors and consultants to implement the scope of work of assigned projects

  • Develop and maintain correspondence, forms, presentations, and project materials

  • Research and compile information to support decision-making and implementation processes

  • Conduct data entry and data management

  • Produce reports as requested

2. Provide staff support to United We Rise workgroups, including:

  • Meeting preparation and facilitation

  • Planning and implementation of events and workgroup-specific activities

  • Coordinating all aspects of meeting logistics (e.g. venues, meals, technology support, etc.

 

3. Build nation-wide relationships for mobilization initiatives and strategic partnerships with United We Rise stakeholders

 

4. Coordinate with United We Rise communications consultants to:

  • Manage the development and maintenance of the UWR collateral, including web page and social media handles

  • Coordinate development of content for external communication strategies, including creation of content

 

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  1. Demonstrated commitment to social, economic and racial justice work with a liberatory lens

  2. Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, with ability to synthesize information and produce clear and concise written reports

  3. Ability evaluate processes and outcomes and identify areas for improvement

  4. Ability to work on cross-sector, community partnerships and projects, working collaboratively with community members and other stakeholders

  5. Proficiency in technology required, including Microsoft Office applications and collaboration software systems, such as Google, Slack and DropBox, and virtual platforms such as Zoom

  6. Ability to work independently, be self-directed, set priorities when multiple demands are present and creatively address complex problems

  7. Excellent organization and time management skills to ensure follow through

  8. Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including planned evening and weekend hours, when necessary  

  9. Accuracy and attention to detail required

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Relevant experience in public health, coalition development and operations, business administration, or a related field

  • Knowledge of and familiarity with the HIV/AIDS field

  • Experience working with diverse communities

  • Previous project management and facilitation experience required

  • Experience with grassroots organizing is desired
